Katleen Gabriels is a doctoral student at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. She is currently working on a PhD on morality and ethics in three-dimensional social virtual worlds, entitled 'Living virtual lives'. Her PhD, funded by the Flemish Research Foundation (FWO), holds an interdisciplinary approach, combining a media-sociological and philosophical study of online moral practices and ethical reflection in virtual worlds. Katleen is part of the Department of Communication Sciences and the Department of Philosophy. She is also a member of IBBT-SMIT (Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology - Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunication), the research group 'InterACT' (Interactions in Art, Culture, and Technology), and the Centre for Ethics and Humanity. She holds master's degrees in Germanic Languages (Leuven University, Belgium) and Moral Philosophy (Ghent University, Belgium).
